Samsung has officially announced Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3, two devices that should be capable of reuniting the portability of a smartphone with the processing power, multitasking capabilities and visual experience specific to a tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 announcement confirms the rumors regarding the new family of smartphones, but it doesn’t mention the terminals’ compatibility with the Samsung Game Pad accessory. he officials of the South Korean phone maker say that even though the displays of the Galaxy Mega are big, the two new models are very thin and portable.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is equipped with a TFT qHD (540 x 960 pixels) display with a size of 5.8 inches (diagonally), dual-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal flash storage that can be expanded using a microSD card of up to 64 GB.
The primary camera has an 8 megapixel sensor with HDR functions and continuous shooting, while the front-facing 1.9 megapixel camera should perform well when it comes to video calls.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 measures 162.6 x 82.4 x 9 mm, weighs 182 grams and comes with a Li-Ion 2,600 mAh battery.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is the more powerful model, boasting a 6.3-inch TFT HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) display, Exynos 5 Dual chipset based on two Cortex A15 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 or 16 GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card slot (up to 64 GB supported).

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is 167.6 mm tall, 88 mm wide, and 8 mm thin, while weighing 199 grams, and sporting a bigger battery of 3,200 mAh. The cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 are identical with the units mounted on the Galaxy Mega 5.8. So is the operating system, both the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8 come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI.

The differences between Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8 appear when it comes to connectivity, Galaxy Mega 6.3 being compatible with the 4G LTE networks and WiFi 802.11ac standard, while Mega 5.8 can only connect to HSPA+ networks and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 will be available in Europe as of May. Even though Samsung didn’t announce the price of the two new smartphones, Mega 6.3 has already been listed for pre-order at a price of €699. Well, the official price might actually be a bit smaller.
